WHAT IT IS

Our Secure for Safety initiative has one simple goal, help childcare programs be better prepared for earthquakes. Thanks to generous grants from the Rite Aid Foundation (Kid Cents program) BLOCKS is able to provide earthquake fasteners and other earthquake safety supplies FREE to childcare programs operating in Kitsap County. 

WHAT WE OFFER

BLOCKS is offering to come to your childcare program location and help conduct earthquake mitigation measures to make your childcare program safer. This could include the following (based on need and supply availability)...

• fastening furniture to the wall
• providing drawer and cabinet latches
• wall hanging support
• putty and other methods of securing material in place
• gas valve wrenches and other supplies
• volunteers to help do the work

WHAT YOU GET 

Childcare and headstart programs that participate will get free help and supplies to prepare their childcare for earthquakes. Participating organizations will also get peace of mind in knowing their programs have taken extra steps to help ensure the safety of children and staff.

Secure for Safety appointments will be conducted throughout the year (weather and volunteer support could cause some delays). If the date / time you select is not available, a member of our staff will contact you immediately to work out an alternate time. 

WHAT IT IS

The intent of our Campaign Early Prepare is to better prepare our community, and especially our children, for earthquakes. 

helps prepare children, their families, and their caregivers for earthquakes.  We have trained over 1,800 children so far!

WHAT WE OFFER

BLOCKS provides FREE earthquake safety training to YOUR Kitsap County childcare or Head Start program. You have the option to select remote or live / in person training. Our training includes...

• A story time reading of Tummy Rumble Quake (written to teach earthquake safety to children 3-8 years old)
  • This book includes a fun song and teaches children what to do to stay safe during an earthquake.
• BLOCKS will conduct an earthquake drill in YOUR childcare program or Head Start location (with follow on earthquake safety techniques & tips discussion)
• You will learn about (and hopefully participate in) the Great ShakeOut™ 

WHAT YOU GET 

Childcare and Head Start programs that participate in the free training will receive the following…

• A new copy of Tummy Rumble Quake to keep
• All children will receive a bookmark and take home earthquake preparedness material 
• To help increase community readiness and child literacy, all pre-K children who participate in the training will get a free copy of Tummy Rumble Quake to take home. We will continue to offer this as long as resources allow. 

HOW TO SIGN UP

If you would like to schedule in-person training please select which earthquake training appointment you would like (one class or multiple classes).  If you would like remote training, please choose the classes/events option below. Campaign Early Prepare Training will be available October - December of each calendar year. If you would like to schedule training outside of that timeline, that's not a problem. Contact us and we will see what we can do to work something out!
